On the 22nd September 2022, HMICFRS placed the Metropolitan Police in “Engage”, also known as special measures, after an inspection.

The Metropolitan Police remains along with two other forces also in special measures. Devon and Cornwall Police and Nottinghamshire Police.
On the 15th August 2024 HMICFRS published the Metropolitan Police PEEL Assessment 2023–2025. The Met Police remains in “Engage” Special Measures.
